As firefighters, we are constantly battling the effects of inflammation and high stress. Having sustainable, powerful ingredients in our Rescue 1 CBD products is key to helping first responders. In fact, there are other ingredients besides CBD that also make their way into our products; including arnica. The benefits of arnica and CBD combined make our topical roll-on a powerful anti-inflammatory agent.
You may recognize arnica in many medically crafted products and ointments. Keep reading as we talk about some basics of why we love this compound!
Learning about the History of Arnica
Arnica is a perennial herb that’s part of the sunflower family. The name comes from its genus, the Greek word arni or ‘lamb’ (in reference to its soft, hairy leaves).
Today, arnica is widely used as a homeopathic medicine to treat inflammation. It wasn’t until 1981 that German researchers discovered and isolated a compound in the plant they named ‘helenalin’.
According to The Journal of Biological Chemistry:
“In traditional medicine, alcoholic preparations from flowers of Arnica montana and Arnica chamissonis ssp.foliosa are applied externally to treat hematomas, contusions, sprains, rheumatic diseases, and superficial inflammations of the skin. The secondary metabolites that mediate the anti-inflammatory effects are sesquiterpene lactones of the 10α-methylpseudoguaianolide type like helenalin, 11α,13-dihydrohelenalin, chamissonolid, and their ester derivatives.”
As you can see from the above, arnica in topical forms is commonly used only on the skin to reduce pain and swelling associated with bruises, aches, and sprains. We hope that in the near future we will find out more about this amazing compound.
Benefits of Arnica & CBD: A Great Combination
In one of our previous blogs, we discussed the efficacy of CBD in combatting inflammation. The combination of arnica and CBD is the absolute perfect match — enhancing the overall effect of our products to bring you unmatched levels of comfort — before, during, and after your shift.
One of the most important things to remember is practicing safe/responsible consumption and always making sure you know what you’re putting in your body.
Therefore, when choosing the most optimal CBD products to aid in your daily life, why not choose trusted products that maximize their potential effects? The benefits of arnica and CBD (in addition to our other beneficial natural ingredients) is just what you have been looking for.
I hope you got something out of this article. If you did, please share it around the firehouse so we can spread the word about CBD that’s safe for the job.
